SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to exchange protected information between a client and a server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any data. Many tech-savvy users favor SSH mainly because of the higher level of security. The connection is established and the commands are sent using a command line. The offered options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files could be relocated or deleted, databases can be imported and exported, and archives can be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the options are significantly more - the web server and the database server can be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be installed and a lot more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, since full root access is required and all the other customers on that server shall be affected. Even though SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs too - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting
SSH access is offered with all Linux cloud website hosting which we offer you. With some of them, it is offered by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade which you can include with a few mouse clicks in your website hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section related to it where you can also find the information you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may select the password which you shall use and, if necessary, you shall be able to change it with several clicks from the same place. All commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article together with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is offered by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can easily include it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the function with only one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can type the password you want to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you could also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a few examples. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.
