If you'd like to direct a domain that you have to another domain or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the website you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this type of a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.
CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting
Creating a CNAME record using our Linux cloud website hosting is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in a couple of easy steps. You will find a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you various possibilities - if you build a company website on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up a site through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will enable you to set up a CNAME record with ease. If you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than 3 clicks to set up this kind of record. All DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video in the Control Panel regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
